Semat in 2025 – Growth, Focus and Building a New Strategy

The year 2025 was a period of growth and strategic renewal for Semat. Revenue increased year-on-year in absolute terms, and profitability improved. The four largest customers accounted for 60% of total revenue, while the remaining 40% was distributed among other active customers. The balance and breadth of the customer base strengthened business stability throughout the year.

New Significant Customer
Relationships

In 2025, Semat welcomed several new customers from various industries, including:

  • Sandvik
  • Vatajankoski
  • Messukeskus
  • Patria Land

These new partnerships expanded Semat’s role within domestic industry and strengthened its footprint in critical sectors.

New Strategic Direction:
Stronger Focus on Defence Industry Services

The year 2025 marked a strategic shift for Semat. The services for defence industry sector was elevated as one of the company’s key focus areas, which was also reflected in financial results: the share of Defence projects increased to 27% of total revenue. In previous years, this share had ranged between approximately 5–20%, varying slightly year by year.

Key development steps included:

  • Deepening the strategic partnership with Milrem Robotics
  • Obtaining an NCAGE code (an international identifier required for participation in NATO procurement systems and, more broadly, in international defence-related projects)

Semat’s Long History in Defence-sector

Although the strategic focus on defence industry services was strengthened in 2025, Semat’s background in the sector extends much further. Semat has carried out Defence-related assignments since the company’s early years, and the organisation has consistently employed numerous highly experienced experts with extensive, demanding, and versatile experience in defence-sector projects.

This long-term commitment and strong expertise ensure that Semat’s role in the Defence industry is based on genuine substance and long-standing sector know-how, rather than fluctuations in the market environment.

Development of Systems, Opperating
Models and Organisation

In 2025, Semat transitioned away from an ERP system that had been in use for 15 years, adopting a more modern solution. As part of the renewal, key processes were automated, and financial management systems were integrated into a seamless whole. The change was implemented in a controlled manner, laying the foundation for more scalable and efficient operations in the coming years.

Office Relocation and Working Environment

In 2025, Semat’s Vantaa office was relocated to Ruoholahti, Helsinki. The move supports hybrid working practices and better reflects the evolving operating environment of an expert organisation.

Strengthening Expertise and Recruitment

Skilled and experienced personnel are Semat’s core asset. Employee retention remains at an excellent level, with only minimal changes in headcount, which remained stable overall. Recruitment efforts focused particularly on experienced professionals, further strengthening Semat’s competence base and its ability to support demanding customer projects across various industries.

Employee Engagement, Rewards
and Wellbeing

During 2025, the role of employees in developing Semat’s operations and services was further strengthened. Experts were more closely involved in shaping the company’s solutions and ways of working.

  • Employees participated more actively than before in supporting sales, for example by providing lead referrals, which were rewarded in accordance with the company’s sales commission practices.
  • This active contribution was also reflected in performance-based bonuses, paid in line with existing company policies.
  • Wellbeing-related benefits were expanded, for example through the introduction of wearable smart technology, continuing earlier wellbeing investments.
  • Monitoring of workplace wellbeing was enhanced by moving from traditional wellbeing surveys to EKD analysis, providing a more holistic view of the organisation’s situation. The results were highly encouraging and reinforced the perception of Semat’s strong work climate and well-functioning everyday operations.

Towards Semat’s 20th Anniversary

In 2026, Semat will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Over the years, the company has grown into a trusted partner in project management and development. The customer base includes several organisations that have been involved since the very early days.

Semat’s history also includes international operations: the company has previously had operations in China, Sweden and Norway. While operations in China have since been discontinued, the Swedish and Norwegian companies remain active and form part of Semat’s long-term development path and its ability to serve customers beyond Finland’s borders.

This strong foundation — a long history of customer relationships, international experience and expertise built over the years — provides excellent conditions for the next phase of growth and the ongoing anniversary year.

Outlook for 2026

The year 2026 began from exceptionally strong starting points. Expanded customer relationships, a clarified strategy, a strengthened defence-sector services and modernised operating models support Semat’s objective to continue profitable growth and to provide its customers with increasingly high-quality, comprehensive project management and development services.
